Video Shows Officers Beating UMD Student, Police Suspend Officer

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Prince George’s County Police have suspended one officer, and promise more action, following a video that show officers in riot gear beating a student last month.

Police Chief Robert Hylton says he was disappointed in the conduct shown in the video during the rowdy celebration after the University of Maryland beat Duke.

Hylton says it’s an isolated incident, but the department takes the situation very seriously. He says they’re continuing to review the tapes to identify the other officers involved.

The video shows a man dancing down the sidewalk. He stops when he sees a pair of officers on horseback in front of him. Three officers then come running from across the street in riot gear, slam him into a wall and beat him with batons.
